Musikalliansen employed 12 freelance musicians 1 April 2011, bringing the total number of employed to 111 people. The next application process, for another 10 freelance musicians, will start on 22 August and run through to midnight 26 September 2011. The application is digital and can be accessed from our website not later than 22 August 2011.

Who can apply to Musikalliansen?

You need to be a practicing freelance musician to apply to Musikalliansen. Practicing freelance musicians include instrumentalists, singers and conductors. Your proficiency should be accompanied by frequent public cultural funding; either as a performer in public concert halls, operas, musical theaters; as a musician engaged by publicly funded concert organizers or as a receiver of personal grants and scholarships from the likes of the Swedish Arts Grants Committee or the Swedish Arts Council.

What does employment by Musikalliansen involve?

As an employee you will continue to work as a freelance musician. Whenever engaged as a musician, you take leave of absence from Musikalliansen, and when you are between jobs you are employed by Musikalliansen. When employed by Musikalliansen you can practise, rehearse, market yourself, attend training programmes and still earn your pay. Your employment also include insurance, pension and holiday benefits.
When employed you will be given a time-account based on your work over the past eight years. When you work as a musician the time-account is counted up and when you are employed by Musikalliansen your time-account is counted down. Your employment has no time limit but depend on how much you work as a musician.
